2011 Yearly Update

Greetings from the Miller family! We’ve been back in Fayetteville for twenty-four years and we’ve been blessed that my practice continues to prosper. I still have priviledges up at Blowing Rock Hospital. My practice is on the web at www.FayPlasticSurgery.com. Our family time continues to be a priority. Our family trips included Spring Break with Shelby & Janina at Disney and Sarasota, Florida. We spent a week with Will in Bangkok, Thailand in September during a lecture series I gave at a conference. We also try to get up to Traveler’s Rest in Blowing Rock as much as possible. Our family web site, www.markmillerfamily.com has pictures of our travels.

I hit my 55th birthday last February and completed the DisneyWorld Half-Marathon in January 2011 with Beth & Will, Victoria, Colin, Colin’s mom. It was a blast running under Cinderella’s Castle. Beth, Shelby  and I are all planning on running the DisneyWorld Half-Marathon January 7, 2012.

I went over to Zambia, Africa with the high school senior class of Fayetteville Christian in March. I will go with them again next spring to the jungles of Costa Rica. I’m still on the Board of Trustees of Methodist University and the local Board of First Citizen’s Bank. I was named one of “America’s Top Plastic Surgeons” for four years running by the Consumers’ Research Council of America, an independent Washington, D.C.-based research organization.

Beth & I celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary last April 23rd! We try to spend time together and generally eat lunch daily. We have been training together for the Half-Marathon next month. She has been gracious and tolerant to help out in my office now that I’m solo with a PA. Beth is still involved with various aspects of church life including the annual workteam to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She still somehow finds time to horseback ride and do yoga. Beth is on the Fayetteville Academy Board of Trustees as Vice-Chair. Beth and I are Class of 2012 Co-Chairs of the UNC Parents Council and make several trips to Chapel Hill.

Will (25) graduated UNC-Chapel Hill Phi Beta Kappa in 2009 and has moved to China! He is Public Relations/Sales Manager with Haiku/Hatsune, a restaurant corporation he had interned with in 2008. He now speaks Chinese, and helped start their restaurant at the Shanghai Expo 2010, the largest world event in world history! He surprised us and came home again this Christmas 2011 which made the holiday season joyous.

Victoria (now 21) is a senior in the School of Education at UNC-Chapel Hill, specializing in Child Development and Family Studies. She spent the summer nannying an infant. She also completed the DisneyWorld Half-Marathon last January having done the full Marathon the year before running the entire event with her dad…a special treat for me! She still spends time with Colin who graduated last spring from UNC-Chapel Hill and is in his first year of law school at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Shelby is now 18. She is our other world traveler having gone to Germany to spend time with our German exchange daughter, Janina. She is enjoying her senior year at the Fayetteville Academy spending time with her friends. She is currently cheerleading and will be playing soccer next spring. She is still taking art classes and is helping to  teach a photography course at school.

Janina Rahe is our student exchange daughter from Germany. She seamlessly fit in with our family arriving in August 2010. She has been with us to Blowing Rock, NC many times, spent a long week-end in Washington, DC, spring break in Florida and had her family come over and visit seeing much of North Carolina from the mountains to the coast. So now we have been blessed with three daughters and a son!

Toby, our snow-white Maltese and our barn cat, Comet still rule the roost this past year. We still have our horses, Sassy, who delivered her second foal this spring, and George, her first foal.

May you all have a blessed 2012 and let our paths cross again soon!

Mark, Beth, Will V, Victoria, Shelby & Janina
